Pickleball Injury Prevention

Dr. Ernie Medina describes pickleball as the “Holy Grail” of physical activity. It raises the heart rate, isn’t too demanding on the body and requires players to use their brains for concentration. However, injuries do still occur here are a few tips to avoid them.

Warm up with dynamic stretching. Dynamic stretching involves doing active movements to stretch the muscles rather than holding a position for a short period of time. For example, high knees and arm circles are great dynamic stretches.

Stay hydrated and in shape. Drinking enough water on and off the court as well as conditioning will go a long way in preventing injuries.

Wear the proper shoes. Court shoes are recommended over running shoes because running shoes tend to have soles that could snag on the court and cause a fall.
